Junior Police Academy and Forensic Science Course July 2024


The Lancaster Police Department will be offering a Juvenile Police Academy this Summer! This program is for students who are in High School. The primary purpose of this academy is to acquaint students with various functions of the Lancaster Police Department; students will also discover the minimum qualifications, training requirements and daily responsibilities of other county, state and federal law enforcement agencies through guest speakers and activities. Students will learn about the Penal Law, SWAT, Forensics, accident investigation, rapid deployment training, traffic stops, DWI, Defensive Tactics, and EMS. This 2-week academy will run Monday through Friday starting on July 8, 2024 and ending on July 19, 2024, starting at 9:00 a.m. and ending as late as 1:00 p.m at Lancaster High School.

Our high school students (grades 10 - 12) have the unique opportunity to also earn an elective Science credit by participating in the Police Academy while also taking the HS Science Course - Forensics: Science in the Media.

The course will begin on Monday July 1st and run through Thursday August 8th (concurrently with the Police Academy)

Timeline for students interested in doing both the Science course and Police Academy:
Students will meet at Lancaster High School for Forensics: Science in the Media* on July 1st from 7:45am - 10:00am
Students will participate in the Police Academy from July 8-19th from 9am to 1pm
Students will meet at Lancaster High School for Forensics: Science in the Media* from July 22nd to August 8th from 7:45 am - 10:00 am
*Completion of asynchronous work is a requirement to achieve course credit.
